About the Nurses Association Of Macau

Founded in November 1986, the Nurses Association of Macao aims at uniting nurses in Macao, enhancing the professional standards of health care, providing better services and maintaining basic rights of nurses. The Association has 650 members, occupying 60% of nurses in Macao, and they are all serving the community in various healthcare organizations.

In 3 decades, the Association has been putting a great effort in the professional development of nurses in Macao, such as advocating the equality of nurse education, initiating the first higher diploma and bachelor degree in Nursing. With the active support of all members, the Association founded the newsletter of the Nurses Association of Macao. Furthermore, to tie in with the government policy, the Association facilitated numerous trainings and social activities in areas of infectious disease and control, epidemic disease, intensive care and crisis management, etc. so as to strengthen the prevention of local infectious disease.

In June 1999, the Association became a member of the International Council of Nurses (ICN). Since 2000, under the tremendous support of the Macao SAR Government, the Association has been honored to represent Macao SAR, China, in various international conferences including the National Assembly of ICN, ICN Congress, Alliance of Asian Nurses Association Meeting and ICN Asian Workforce Forum. These opportunities allow members to broaden their views, learn the global advance nursing trend, which contributes back to Macao community. They even translate the updated information into Chinese so as to share with the other members. This not only connects the Associate with the other healthcare associations worldwide, but also promote Macao to the world.

In the future, the Association will put in more effort to organize different activities and services in promotion of health, support and promote environmental protection and more importantly, enhance the health of Macao population.
